鬼火，狐火 onibi, kitsunebi
phosporous light is Onibi. It is often seen at graves.
燐は鬼火という。墓などには狐火といって化生物などが火をともして見えたり消えたり、行きつつ戻りつつする。鬼火は化け物などのともす火をいう。

hotaru 蛍 fireflies
蛍をくちくさという。礼記で腐草は蛍となるという。また燐の字を蛍と読む。馬の血は蛍となる。ならば馬の血が蛍になるというのはもっともなことである。また狐火を燐火ということがある。この燐の字に馬の血の意味がある。これで世俗に狐火とは馬の骨を燃やすというのではないか。

夜な夜な霊火が出る所は、対岸からもそれが見える。その場所は自学屋敷といわれ、城主の侍臣であったのが、主を害した罪によって毎日指を一本ずつ切られた後、殺されたことへの怨みであろうという。
